What actually is Rotspon?
Even in the Hanseatic era, ships in the port of Lübeck loaded large barrels with high-quality French wines, in addition to salt and fish. The red coloring of the wood of the barrels is the eponym of the Lübeck Rotspon. Even today, these noble cask wines are bottled and corked by the cellar masters of the traditional wine houses in Lübeck.
